"On Certain Ground" is a strategic research project at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) focused on quantifying uncertainty in ground modeling for offshore wind farms. It is aimed to integrate geophysical, geotechnical, and geological data in a consistent and efficient way for engineering design and geo-hazard assessment.
The logo visualizes layered ground conditions through two distinct forms representing adjacent subsurface units. The diffuse boundary between them intentionally avoids a sharp separation, symbolizing the inherent uncertainty in defining geological interfaces. This design highlights the project’s focus on acknowledging and integrating uncertainty within ground modelling rather than assuming deterministic layer boundaries.
