PITS (Parameter identification using in-situ tests in silty soils) is a research project led by the Austrian Federal Chamber of Architects and Chartered Engineering Consultants, supported by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency. The project advances the characterization of soft, challenging ground conditions to enable safer, more sustainable construction. Extensive in-situ and laboratory campaigns at multiple test sites produced datasets that support an improved estimation of soil properties and form the basis for numerical back-calculation.
The logo represents the two central pillars of the research initiative: in-situ testing and numerical modelling. The vertical element abstracts a cone penetration test (CPT), while the triangular base geometry references finite element discretization, emphasizing the integration of field data and computational analysis.
